![]() Super Hexagon is a brutal arcade game in which you keep a tiny triangle floating ahead of the revolving hexagon from being crushed by the oncoming walls. Platforms: Windows, Linux, Mac, Android, iOSĪvailable on: GOG, Humble, Steam, Google Play, Amazon Appstore, Apple Appstore Every room is not just designed around the gravity flipping mechanic, but also have themes accompanied with often humorous “room titles,” giving each room its flavor and unique feel. The best aspect of VVVVVV is the level of care that was put into it, which the game shows almost immediately. While the game is far from easy, the frequency of checkpoints and how quickly you respawn allow the game to be challenging and fun without being too frustrating. This forces you to think before you flip into one of your hundreds or even thousands of deaths to spikes. The only ability Viridian has is flipping gravity, provided he is not in mid-air. Playing as Viridian, the captain of a spaceship, your job is to find your missing crew after crash landing into a strange dimension. In addition to the main game, VVVVVV has a free Make and Play version for custom levels on PC and the Super Gravitron minigame free for mobile platforms ( Apple Appstore – Google Play – Amazon Appstore). While the game might not look like a technological marvel, it excels greatly in its simple and effective gameplay, combined with its humorous story, awesome chiptune music, and level editor. VVVVVV is a quirky platformer and a big success story for Terry. Even if the levels are supposed to last only a few seconds, Super Hexagon will somehow steal hours of your time – and in return, give you hours of enjoyment.Platforms: Windows, Mac, Linux, Android, iOS, PS4, PS Vita, Switch, 3DS, Commodore 64Īvailable on: GOG, Humble, Steam, Google Play, Amazon Appstore, Apple Appstore, eShop (Switch), eShop (3DS), PS Store (PS4), PS Store (Vita) Smooth, colorful graphics an amazing soundtrack and addicting gameplay all add up to make one of if not the most pleasurable gaming experiences I’ve ever had on my iPad.įor $0.99, it’s practically a steal. There’s not just a something about Super Hexagon that makes me want to play it every time I pick up my iPad – it’s everything about Super Hexagon that makes me want to play it every time I pick up my iPad. When both the stellar music and fantastic gameplay are combined, they come together to make one of the best games I’ve ever played. Produced by Chipzel, an Irish chip-musician, the soundtrack is simply beautiful and is what makes this game so much fun. In my opinion, the best part of this app, though, is not its gameplay: it’s the music that accompanies the gameplay and enriches it even further. Levels are meant to be quick – but in reality, the sheer hardness of each of them make it so you could easily spend 50 times longer to beat it. So much so, in fact, that I’ve wasted about an hour of my time while writing this review playing it. Each level will progressively get faster and faster, making your time target (for example, 30 seconds on the first level without hitting an obstacle) even harder to achieve.Īnd even though the gameplay is simple, it’s incredibly addicting. Gameplay itself is simple: each side of the screen is essentially a button that, when pressed, will rotate the triangle that you control around a hexagon that every obstacle comes together to make. When you complete each respective level, you will unlock another one. ![]() Each level is a separate difficulty, starting at at Hexagon, going to Hexagoner, and ending up at Hexagonest. Once you tap on the screen, you hear an 8-bit confirmation noise and you’re thrown into the level selection screen. A woman reads to you “Super Hexagon” and the game asks you to tap on the screen to continue. The game starts out by giving you a completely silent title screen. Keep on reading to see – and hear – what I mean. I don’t really know under what genre it falls – developer Terry Cavanagh calls it “a minimal action game” – but what I do know that it’s simply amazing. One game that I found recently is called Hexagon. I consume content of all varieties on it, including games. I don’t know about yours, but my iPad is mostly a leisure device.
